Contemporary Couples Modern Garden - Bramhall

Brief

Existing Conditions The client has modernized the house with a large extension coming off from the traditional, original house. The new modern extension featured two sets of large bi-folding doors that were installed at 0.5m above ground level and which needed linking to the garden to create a flowing indoor outdoor living space. The existing hard and soft landscaping in the garden had become unusable due to neglect.

Key Points
• Address the level changes in the garden considering the following;
– New bi-fold doors out into the garden
– Front door steps levels

-Overall gradient of the garden
– Level of the secondary ‘Side door’ entrance
– Wanting a continuous indoor-outdoor flow
– Privacy from the overlooking neighbors

• Incorporating the following features or functions into the design;

– More traditional look and feel to the area by the front door and driveway
– Seating spaces for different functions such as relaxing, entertaining, eating with friends
– Working within a conservation area – Use of the left hand driveway throughout the works
– Making use of the key sunlight spots taking into account the aspect created by the mature trees
