For many years Dan had been inspired to love the natural world by his hero David Attenborough. So, before setting up his garden design business 12 years ago (after 11 years in city banking), he travelled the world, checking out the wonders of the natural world and cultivated gardens like Kirstenbosch in South Africa. Back in the UK, inspired and full of enthusiasm, Dan set to work on ‘Dreamscape Gardens’. Working alone, with just one van and a cupboard for an office, he studied every night after working on clients’ gardens, learning about plants, design, landscaping and building a complete garden from scratch. 12 years later and Dreamscape Gardens is a well-established, well-respected and successful company, employing 12 people and with a fleet of vehicles! Dreamscape has had enormous success with show gardens recently (Monty Don encouraged Dan at Manchester’s Dig the City in 2104, where Dreamscape took gold and best in show). In 2017 Dan entered his most innovative garden ‘The Live Garden’, (which he’d designed in collaboration with his senior designer Martin Williams), at RHS Tatton Flower Show, to great acclaim.
In his spare time, Dan loves football and is enjoying introducing his young son to the joys of the game. He’s very involved in The Heatons community where he lives, and where Dreamscape is based, and is a long-standing member of BALI (British Association of Landscape Industries) and local business group 4HTA (Four Heatons Traders Association).
