For this design, our brief was to create a family-friendly garden with lawn space as well as an area for relaxing and entertaining. Separate spaces are defined by different planting styles and variances in materials, which helps to maintain an open feel to the garden. Insect-friendly flowering perennials in pastel colours are being used along with fabulous grasses, to inspire a relaxed, cottagey feel around the main seating area. Attractive woodland planting with year-round foliage interest adds form and texture to bare spaces under large existing conifers. A bespoke pergola, with tensioned wire rope, was designed to provide an exciting, contemporary focal point in the garden and create structure for a range of climbing plants.
